Nanjing World Poetry Day Celebration

In response to the invitation from Granada City of Literature World Poetry Day Initiative, Nanjing Literature Centre organized featured events to celebrate the World Poetry Day.

"Reconnecting People: Poetry and Urban Life", a poetry salon presented by Librairie Avant-Garde Bookstore, which was ranked by BBC as one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world, took place in its Mont Wutai branch. Six poets lived in Nanjing were invited, some of them are also critics, translators and artists. They shared their ideas on “How Internalization affects poetry writing” and “The significance of poetry in modern urban culture”, and have a thorough discussion.

During “Read a foreign poem” session, HAN Dong read extract from Canción del jinete by Spanish poet Federico García Lorca, SUN Dong read extract from little red cap by British poet Carol Ann Duffy, and HE Tongbin chose extract from Sonette an Orpheus by Austrian poet Rainer Maria Rilke, followed by 12 audiences read their favorite poems onstage.
