A System of Literary Promotion

Since 2005, the “Reading Revitalization Action Plan” has been underway across the entire city and its strategies continue to successfully encourage students at every level to engage with Chinese and foreign literature alike. Following the plan’s launch, Nanjing students’ have consistently ranked ahead of the rest of the province in literacy level.

The Mother Tongue Research Institute seeks to remedy literary deficiencies in China's early education systems, with results such as publishing a daily reader with 30 million copies issued, establishing 300 pilot schools, and training more than 8000 teachers annually.

Ten lifelong learning institutions provide a range of courses to older students. Jinling University for the Aged, the first of its kind in China, offers dozens of literary courses and enrolls almost ten thousand elderly students per year.
