【诗里南京】用诗歌致敬2019，迎接新时代

编者按：新的一年即将来临，“诗里南京”专栏推出国际诗人眼中的文都南京，用诗歌致敬2019，迎接新时代。首期聚焦南京文学之都2019年国际驻地作家、爱尔兰诗人马修·盖登在驻地期间为南京创作的诗歌《梧桐树》。在诗人眼里，梧桐树是南京城市的一种精神象征，梧桐树精神也代表着南京市以及生活在这座城市的市民精神。

  The trees here sustain a gesture

  of love, provide sanctuary

  from a recollection of horrors

  meted down by the past. They

  soak up the persistent poisons,

  unconditionally spill out the very

  air you breathe, refuse to kowtow

  before you, won’t even remember

  the final touch of your hand

  merely continue their seasonal

  cycle as though you’d never existed

  as if your destruction ever mattered.
